CONISTON Post Office is to move next month, the company has officially announced today.

It will switch from its current site at Yewdale Road to the village's Hills Garage on Broughton Road - around 100 metres away.

The Post Office says the move is necessary to create 'a modern open-plan local-style branch with massively extended opening hours for customers.'

It will carry the 'Post Office local' brand which the company says is "a new concept for delivering Post Office services from an open-plan counter with Post Office products and services available alongside retail transactions during shop opening hours."

Opening hours will be 7am to 10pm from Monday to Sunday, giving 105 hours of service per week – more than double what customers currently enjoy.

The current branch will close at midday on Saturday November 2 and the new branch will open at 1pm on Monday November 4.

Suzanne Richardson, of the Post Office, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in the Coniston area and we are confident that this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”

“The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
