AN intriguing album of ultra-cool lounge takes on 1980s film soundtracks.
Marc Collin is one the leaders of Nouvelle Vague, a collective responsible for bossa nova and 1960s pop reworkings of New Wave and punk classics by the likes of Depeche Mode and The Clash.
With Hollywood Mon Amour, Collin takes the concept to its next logical step, with stripped bare, downbeat versions of bombastic movie themes.
The results can be more than surprising – who would have thought that Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) could be transformed from nauseating manufactured rubbish into something sultry, smooth and genuinely romantic?
When Doves Cry and Eye Of The Tiger are both given a complete and highly effective remodelling, whilst The Breakfast Club theme Don't You (Forget About Me) is rebuilt from the ground up to make a hauntingly beautiful end to a stunning album.
