Alastair Williams’ ‘Student Grub’ offers a basic guide for all first time students attempting to survive away from mum’s home cooking, writes Rachel Daniels.
With simple step-by-step instructions the book includes dishes from around the world from chicken tandoori to home-made American-style burgers, encouraging cheaper and healthy alternatives to those late night take-aways.
Whether it' breakfast, a quick snack or a three-ourse meal there is a range of recipes and ideas and,for those more novice chefs, the book also includes the basics with instructions on boiling an egg and cooking a jacket potato.
Alongside the recipes is advice on healthy eating and what vitamins, minerals and other elements are required in order to maintain a balanced diet.
Although this guide will not create the next student Masterchef,it should help to inspire students away from the staple cheese on toast or at least teach them to cook it well!
