An award for serving correct measures? You might be forgiven for thinking that's a bit unnecessary. Surely it's what always happens, but when it comes to serving beer you would be wrong. CAMRA (The Campaign for Real Ale) has an ongoing petition to encourage the government to legislate to ensure that a pint of beer legally means just that. You wouldn't expect to get short measure from a litre of petrol or a pint of milk, but we regularly accept it from beer sales. In fact, one in four pints is more than five per cent short measure. To recognise two Lakeland pubs who have long been committed to selling beer in over-sized glasses to ensure full measure, the Westmorland Branch of CAMRA has awarded the Watermill at Ings and The Kings Head at Ravenstonedale with certificates to show their appreciation. Branch Chairman, Chris Holland, said: "We want to highlight for the consumer just how important CAMRA feels it is to give fair measure and to recognise licencees who are committed to it."
