The first ever Chilli Festival in the north of England will be held in the grounds of Cumbria’s Levens Hall on August 15 and 17 Chilli Fest will be a hotbed of food, shopping, live music and dancing, all set against the backdrop of the house and its world-famous topiary gardens.

Five and half year old Imogen Barber’s Sticky Toffee Pudding has been declared the “Best in Cumbria”. The young Kirkby in Furness girl won North West Fine Foods’ competition to find Cumbria’s finest sticky toffee pudding at the recent Food Lovers Festival which saw record numbers of visitors and more than 20 competition entries from across the county.

Following Her Majesty’s visit to Redhills near Penrith when she and the Duke of Edinburgh took great delight in sampling a batch of Westmorland Chutney, the Hawkshead Relish Company has jarred the Royal batch comprising 500 jars and is now offering them as a limited edition with all monies going to Hawkshead Pre-school Playgroup.

BBC correspondent Sir Charles Wheeler has died aged 85

Sir Charles Wheeler, one of the BBC's longest-serving and most popular foreign correspondents, has died, the corporation announced. He was 85.
